Financial Transparency
Government should be open and transparent so residents understand how decisions are made and how their tax dollars are being spent.
Integrity
I will stand by the commitments I make to our community, even when faced with pressure. I believe in keeping my word, staying focused on what is best for Norwich Township, and following through on the promises I make.
Accountability
Elected officials should be accountable to the people they represent, taking responsibility for decisions and listening to the concerns of our community.
Your Taxes Should Work For You
You work hard for your money. Your tax dollars should work hard for you. I will advocate for responsible spending, value for taxpayers, and respect for every dollar entrusted to government.
Common Sense Government
Government should work for the people. I will advocate for practical, responsible decisions that focus on what our community actually needs.
Infrastructure Improvement
I will push for responsible long-term planning and investment in the roads, bridges, water systems, facilities, and infrastructure our community depends on.
A Strong Voice
I will ensure Norwich Township has a strong voice in county council and I will advocate for the needs of our township and county.
Working Together Across The Township
I will work closely with the councillors to ensure every ward has a strong voice at the Township table. By working together, sharing ideas, and focusing on common goals, we can make better decisions for all of Norwich Township.
MY VISION
My vision is for a transparent and responsible Norwich Township where every taxpayer can have confidence that their tax dollars are being spent wisely. We must protect essential services, make responsible financial decisions, and plan for the future without placing today’s financial burdens on the next generation.
ABOUT ME
I’m Adrian Couwenberg, and Norwich Township isn’t just where I live. It’s home.
For 57 years, I have called Norwich Township home. I grew up playing minor hockey in Norwich, later
spending four years playing Junior C hockey with the Norwich Merchants. I went on to coach Norwich Minor Hockey and soccer, and have continued to stay involved in the community through the Canada Day Committee, the Chamber of Commerce Council Representative, and the Burgessville Santa Claus Parade.
For 26 years, I have been fortunate to share my life with my spouse. Together, we have raised three
children and are now proud grandparents of two. We have built our family and our lives right here in the community we call home.
Professionally, I am a retired CAMI Automotive employee, a construction contractor, and have spent the past 25 years building and operating a first-generation farm. These experiences have taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and making the most of every dollar.
I have also had the privilege of serving Norwich Township as the Ward 4 Councillor for one term. That
experience gave me a firsthand understanding of how township government works and, just as
importantly, how decisions made at the municipal and county levels affect the people who live here.
WHY I'M RUNNING
I am running for Mayor because I believe Norwich Township deserves transparent, accountable, and
common-sense government.
You work hard to pay your taxes. Your taxes should work hard for you.
I want to see greater financial transparency, responsible spending, and accountability from our
government. I want to see continued investment in the infrastructure our community depends on, while
making sure we are thoughtful about the financial burden we place on today's taxpayers and the next
generation.
I also believe Norwich Township needs a stronger voice at Oxford County Council. Our community
deserves effective representation and someone who will stand up for the interests of Norwich Township while working constructively with our county partners.
I am running because this is my family's home, and I care deeply about its future.
After 57 years in Norwich Township, I believe it's time to give back to the community that has given so
much to me and my family.
